Now we can enjoy the soft warmth and vibrant colors of pure merino wool in a sock yarn with just enough nylon to last for years. As many of you know from reading my comments about BFL Socks, the fact that I am adamantly committed to natural fibers has only heightened my delight that Fleece Artist now offers us two beautiful sock yarns spun with nylon for strength and durability. My own experience of knitting and wearing socks knit with 100% natural wool, regardless of whether or not they were superwashed, was that with once-a-week wear, the socks wore through within a year. In contrast, after more than four years, I am still wearing the two pair I made with a wool/nylon sock yarn, and they show no signs of wearing out any time soon. I believe our time and resources deserves this kind of wear, at the same time that I know that natural fibers are the best for clothing of any type.

Something to notice and enjoy: We were amazed to see the differences in the way Merino and Blue Face Leicester wool take on color. The BFL pulls the color into itself and sends back a deep, subdued richness into the world; in contrast, Merino seems to revel in the liveliness of each color, giving us a bright color-dance in return. Each is so beautiful and yet so very different - Mother Nature really is wonderful!
