This is one of the most luxurious, fascinating, glorious yarns we've ever seen. Bellissimo! doesn't really begin to describe it, but it certainly points in the right direction. In ages past, a yarn like this, spun of highest grade long-staple silk, colored like jewels, almost sparkling with sheen and lustre, would have been presented as a gift from one king to another. It is really quite something to consider that today so very many of us can hold it in our hands, knit with it, wear it. What a wonderful world!
I am presently knitting a scarf of Italian Silk (Seashore colorway) that was inspired by both Hand Maiden's Bias Shawl pattern and Amy Singer's use of a fishnet lace in her Montego Bay scarf (Interweave Knits, Summer 2007, p. 110). It is resulting in one of the most beautiful fabrics to ever have emerged between my needles.
Here's a variation for you to try out:
Using US 5/3.75mm lace needles, CO 31 or 41 stitches loosely (depending upon width desired).
Row 1: Knit
Row 2: K1, *YO, K2tog*, repeat * to * to end.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until you have only enough yarn left to Cast Off Loosely -- or until your scarf is long enough for you.
