My first experience with Big Blue was when I knit a hat for our son - a very simple roll-brim hat. What emerged from between my needles was the most luxuriously soft fabric imaginable. The sort of soft that made me want to rub it against my check, maybe even fall asleep on it. I was amazed -- I had no idea that any breed of sheep could produce such a fiber. Blue Face Leicester truly is the cashmere of wool yarns -- it has it all: a long, strong fiber that is ultra soft. Unlike merino, BFL does not need to be overspun in order to become yarn, so it also offers a lofty, cushiony softness that will wear for years. It doesn't get any better than this.
