What's a Thrum?

A thrum is a length of unspun roving that is knit into a stitch at the middle, so that the loose roving ends line the interior of the garment. Thrums have been used for a very long time to create ultra-warm, ultra-soft garments to make even cold winter nights comfortable.

Fleece Artist has improved upon the traditional approach by substituting Kid Mohair roving for the more typical wool roving. The result is softer, stronger, lighter weight and warmer.

The best-illustrated and best-explained article about thrumming can be found at, where else?, The Yarn Harlot's blog. Thanks! Stephanie.

Enjoy!

There is just nothing else in the world like slipping your foot into a Thrum Sock - every inch of your foot is carressed by the silkiest, softest, warmest, fleeciest stuff you've ever touched. Of course, the "stuff" is kid mohair roving, which explains why your foot thinks it's in heaven!
