What's a Thrum?
A thrum is a length of unspun roving that is knit into a stitch at the middle, so that the loose roving ends line the interior of the garment. Thrums have been used for a very long time to create ultra-warm, ultra-soft garments to make even cold winter nights comfortable.
Fleece Artist Thrum Mittens use the softest-of-all-wool fleeces - that of the Merino sheep. The result is softer and warmer than words can convey.
The best-illustrated and best-explained article about thrumming can be found at, where else?, The Yarn Harlot's blog. Thanks! Stephanie.
Enjoy!
*****It's hard to imagine anything that would feel much cozier on a cold and blustery day than slipping your chilly hands or feet into heavenly soft fleece surrounded by wind-and-cold-proof Blue Face Leicester yarn. And hard to imagine anything that would look more beautiful at the end of your coat sleeve or peeking out from your boots than the gem-like colors of Fleece Artist's Thrum Mittens or Socks. For those in wintery climes these will quickly become must-have apparel.
Fleece Artist's newest rendition of their beloved thrum kits allows us to offer both patterns with each kit - now you can choose to knit whichever you need most from a single kit.
