Woolie Silk 3-ply: 65% wool, 35% silk; 230m/100g

A pdf copy of Ilga Leja's complete 6-page pattern for Kenya, including both line-by-line and charted instructions and 2 full color photos. We will email your pattern when we process your order and send your yarn separately.

Suggested needle size: 3.75 mm/US 5 and 4.5 mm/US 7 circular needles (or sizes you need to get gauge) - you will probably be most comfortable if you can start with 16" length circulars and then move to 24" lengths

Gauge: 16 sts and 24 rounds = 10 cm./4 in. square when worked in the Pattern Stitch with larger needles

Among certain African tribes, strings of beads are worn in colourful coils around the neck, often
covering the shoulders. The Kenya cowl reflects this common version of African jewellery.

Regarded as signs of wealth and status, these decorative, multi-coloured beads form part of the
traditional costume. Young girls of the Samburu tribe in Kenya accumulate rows of beads until
there are enough so that, by the age of 15 or 16, they can expect a proposal of marriage.

Worked in the round, from the top down, the Kenya cowl uses a single 100 g. skein of Woolie-Silk 3-ply. It can be worked to any length you wish and can be extended (with additional yarn, not included) to cover the shoulders even more.
